General Knowledge of Golf Club Sets

On of the most popular sports on the planet is golf. Golf, like all other sports, has required equipment in order to be played properly. One of these pieces of equipment is a golf club.

Golf clubs are used to hit a golf ball. One golf club is made up of a shaft that has a lance, which is also referred to as a grip, and a club head. Without golf club sets, golf will be impossible to play.

In buying golf club sets, it is important to know exactly what you are looking for and what you need in order to buy the right clubs and get your money's worth. These days, you can find several specialized golf club designs, including the wood clubs, iron clubs, and putters. Each of these golf clubs has their own specific purpose.

The wood golf clubs are designed to handle long-distance fairway shots and drive the ball into the hole. These golf clubs normally have large heads and long shafts to provide maximum club speed. The term "wood" can be misleading; while the original wood golf clubs were really made of wood, manufacturers began to use metals, specifically titanium or steel, to make wood golf clubs. Today, carbon fiber or scandium is also used to make wood golf clubs.

The iron golf clubs, which are considered to be the most versatile of all, can be counted on to make a variety of shots. They are simply known as irons and have flat-angled faces and shorter shafts compared with those of wood golf clubs. This design is to allow easy maneuvering for shots approaching the green or going through the rough, over trees, or at the base of the hills. The term "iron" was employed as a tribute to the original iron golf clubs which were actually made from cast iron.

Lastly, putters are used primarily on the green when the ball must be rolled into the cup. They are a special class of golf clubs that have lofts that do not exceed or go past ten degrees, which allows easy ball-rolling along the grass. Putters have helpful lofts that lift the golf ball from whatever indentation it has made, increasing rolling distance and reducing bouncing over the turf.

Every golfer has his own preference when it comes to golf club sets. However, in general, a set used to play one round of the game needs to have a maximum of fourteen clubs. A full set is normally made up of a set of irons from three to nine, a driver, a pitching wedge, two fairway woods (usually a three and a five), a putter, a sand wedge, and one last one of the golfer's choice, perhaps a hybrid club. In numbered irons, the three, five, seven, and nine and is also a common variation. In irons, on the other hand, any other combination is more preferred than the three and the four, which are generally found to be hard to hit. Hybrid clubs are becoming more popular these days and enjoying space in golfers' golf club sets because they allow easier hits.

To help save on golf expenses, you can try buying pre-owned golf club sets. You can readily find online auction shops that sell them.
